Chinese New Year Blessings

All thirteen of the CHINESE NEW YEAR blessings:
.
一帆风顺 - 1. May EACH and EVERY sailing
of yours be a smooth one
二龙腾飞 - 2. May the TWO dragons, from heaven
                        and earth, soar in unison
                        for your success
三阳开泰 - 3. May the THREE suns shine bright
on you morning, noon & evening.
四季平安 - 4. May you remain unharmed for
                        all FOUR seasons
五福临门 - 5. May the FIVE blessings knock on
                       your door:
                       (longevity
                        wealth
                        serenity
                        righteousness
                        a peaceful ending)
六六大顺 - 6. May the double SIXES add up to
                       effortless, seamless endeavors
七星高照 - 7. May all the SEVEN stars guide you
                        along the way
八方来财 - 8. May fortune come to you from
                        all EIGHT corners

Few, if any at all, of the blessings came true
last year. This year, more of the same?

facebook

FACEBOOK could be listed on NY Stock Exchange next week.

Big questions is: Will we fb subscribers be given preference
to buy shares of the company?

Greater question is: Why has fb not given any consideration to give us (the users who have made fb so successful and profitable) at least an option to buy its shares?

Revised version of previous Chinese poem:

台北離別後,

知識加得夠。

額外評級不必成,

應要尽快新旅程。

Monday, March 07, 2011

Stint Taipei over,

A hint cleverer.

Further rating unnecessary,

Fastward to next exploratory.

台北離別後,

知識加了夠。

額外評級不完成,

應要進快新旅程。

So stagnant my life will not be,

To Taiwan I am headed for three

Months of language old and new;

Let singular experiences remain few.

Today, I am bushed as Bush for the last time.

I want to set the record straight
before bowing out (disgracefully).

The following quotes have been attributed
(rightfully) to me.
But let me put you in the right context
to appreciate (fully) what I was saying,
not trying to say.

Bushism #1
“They say this issue wouldn’t resignate
(resonate) with the people.
They’ve been
proved wrong, it does resignate.”

If the nitpicker here thought it would be correct
to say “resonate with the people,
he’s more ignorant than he pretends to be.
Resonate can be used (correctly) only as in:
the issues resonate with
so many different consequences.
I would have (correctly) said the issues wouldn’t
resonate among the people.
The statement, however, appeared (so) restrained
in its “resonate” form that the best way
to make it sound convincing and final
is to use “resignate”.
Not in the sense of resignation as in
“I resigned my job”.
Hence, “the issue resignated with the people”
(accurately) describes how the people felt
when they realized the importance of the issue -
they accepted it with resignation.
And what is this (so very) critical condition
that they'll have to live with?
My not being here anymore for them to kick around!
Alright, so the term “resignate” did not exist
in the English dictionary.
Well, now it does!

Bushism #2

“I am a person who recognizes
the fallacy [fallibility] of humans…”

It’s a popular fallacy that we humans are human,
and since we are not
it’s a pathetic fallacy to give human beings
the humane qualities that they do not have.
The issue here is not about humans being fallible,
which is a proven fact,
so let’s not belabor the obvious,
as the critic was doing.
I do indeed recognize
the critic’s fallibility as a wordsmith
and his fallacy in assuming that we are all human.

Bushism #3

“It will take time to restore
chaos and order.”

Do you seriously think that after eight years’
of my administration’s hard work
to create this chaos,
you could match it in a shorter time?
As for order, there was none to speak of
when I took over the Presidency,
so what’s the complaint here?
You can order for order, but my friends,
there ain’t no such item on the menu.

Bushism #4
“The illiteracy (literacy) level
of our children
are (is) appaling (appalling).”

I may have grown up among the same children,
but I am not all that literate (illiterate).
If I were that stupid,
why would people keep quoting my Bushisms?
Just because I invent new words
and give new spin to older words,
it doesn’t make me any more illiterate than …

Anyway, my time are up, not because I has to go
but because the system allow me
only eight year to appal.

I GOT THAT LAST ONE RIGHT, DIDN’T I?
